Ashok Chavan quits Congress, claiming ‘don’t know the BJP’s working mechanism’ amid buzz.
Ashok Chavan, the former Maharashtra chief minister, resigned from the Congress on Monday. Rumours circulate that he might join the BJP.
Ashok Chavan reportedly delivered his resignation letter to Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Pataole. He also met with Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar in the morning and resigned as an MLA.
This comes only days after prominent Maharashtra Congress stalwarts Baba Siddique and Milind Deora left the party.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters, “Wait and see what happens.”
Chavan resigned as chief minister in 2010 over his suspected role in the Adarsh housing scam. His father, the late Shankarrao Chavan, was also the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
