The Supreme Court’s first female justice, Justice Fathima Beevi, has died.
Justice Fathima Beevi, the first woman Supreme Court judge and former Governor of Tamil Nadu, died on Thursday in a private hospital in Chennai, according to official sources. She was 96 years old.
Pandalam, Kerala, is where he was born. Fathima Beevi graduated from the Government Law College with a Bachelor of Law degree and enrolled as an Advocate on November 14, 1950, according to Live Law. Beevi was appointed to the High Court in 1983 and the Supreme Court in 1989.
According to Live Law, Beevi was the first Muslim woman judge to be nominated to any Higher Judiciary and the first woman Judge of an Asian nation’s Supreme Court.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George expressed her condolences, stating that Justice Beevi’s death was “extremely painful.”
According to the minister, Justice Beevi made history as the Supreme Court’s first female judge and as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. “She was a brave woman who set numerous records.” “She was a person who demonstrated through her own life that willpower and a sense of purpose can overcome any adversity,” George said in a statement.
